Children’s Liturgy of the Word (Catechists)

Every Sunday, except the fourth Sunday of the month, children between three and eight years of age are dismissed from the assembly immediately after the opening prayer at the 10:00 a.m. Mass.  Several adults join them in sharing the scriptures using a translation and activities that are more suited to their age and development.  These adults must have completed the Archdiocesan Decree on Child Protection Training – which is offered annually here at the Church of the Resurrection.

The children and their catechists are prayed over and dismissed from the Mass immediately after the opening prayer.  They gather in a classroom and listen to the same scriptures that the adults listen to, although the translation is more appropriate for children.  They engage in some kind of activity, pray, sing and then return to Mass just in time for the Eucharistic Prayer.
