(Catechists) – Janie Allen-Blue, Gloria Turnbow
Each summer, the Church of the Resurrection welcomes children from the parish and the neighborhoods we serve to come together every day for a week to celebrate what God is doing in their lives. They learn new songs, participate in activities, learn about God and Jesus Christ, share a meal and a snack. It takes a dedicated group of adults and teens to pull it off. Preparations begin in the spring. All adults much be certified to work with children through the Archdiocesan Decree on Child Protection Training, which we plan to offer at the parish in the near future.
The past theme was “The Armor of Light” – the kids put on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit. The children will sang, heard stories, learned from the Bible and created their own armor of God.
The children also enjoyed a tasty dinner treat each day; plus we helped the children discover how God is already at work in their lives.
The fun took place Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 17, 2015, from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm at the Church of the Resurrection.
The week ended with the children sharing their faith on Sunday, July 19tht at the 11:00 a.m. Mass.
