Advent and Lent have traditionally been special times in the life of the Church as we prepare to celebrate two of the great feasts of the liturgical year - Christmas and Easter.
Here, at the Church of the Resurrection, we celebrate these special seasons with additional events to help us deepen our faith.
Each year, during Advent, we gather in church on three or four Tuesday evenings to deep our faith as we prepare for the celebration of Christmas.
One of those gatherings is a celebration of God's mercy which includes the sacrament of penance. The focus of that gathering is not our sinfulness, but rather God's great mercy in sending us his Son to be our savior. The children who will receive the sacrament for the first time also participate in that celebration.
Each year during Lent, the Church of the Resurrection spends time preparing to renew our Baptismal Promises at Easter, by sponsoring serveral events that help us deepen our faith.
Several Tuesday evenings, we gather for prayer and reflection in church at 6:30 p.m. One of these evenings is a celebration of the sacrament of penance. The focus of that gathering is not our sinfulness, but rather God's great mercy poured out for us on the cross as Jesus died to wash away our sins. It is a time a rejoicing in the one who saves us.
