Altar Servers (Percy Stricklin)
Youth of the parish who have already received their first communion and regularly worship at the Church of the Resurrection with their families are invited to serve at the table of the Lord. Special training is offered once a year for new servers, and to help those already serving, to stay focused and deepen their commitment to the Lord. They lead the procession in and out of Mass, hold the Missal for the priest, assist the deacon in preparing the altar, and other actions that help us worship the Lord with all our hearts, minds and spirits. They general serve about once a month.
One of the most viable ways to empower the youngest members of a faith community is to call them to actively
live out their call to faith and to train them in the ministry of server.
The ministry of server is open to boys and girls who are mature enough to understand their responsibilities and to carry them out well and with appropriate reverence. They should have already received the Eucharist for the first time.
The responsibilities of the altar server are:
1] Arrive early enough to be vested prior to beginning of Mass
2] Light the altar candles,
3] carry the incenser, the cross, and the candles in procession
4] prepare the altar for the Liturgy of the Eucharist
5] present the Roman Missal to the priest.
